BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Julio Vaccari stepped down as Independiente's manager after the club's 1-0 home defeat to Banfield in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday.
The result left the Avellaneda-based side last in Group B of the Primera Division's Clausura tournament, having failed to record a win in its first seven games of the season.
"Julio tendered his resignation as head coach of the first team," Independiente said in a social media post. "We thank him and his coaching staff, who went about their work with commitment and professionalism."
Vaccari, 45, guided Independiente - one of Argentina's most successful clubs - to 25 wins, 19 draws and 17 losses after taking charge in June last year.
In other fixtures on Saturday, Sarmiento won 2-0 at home to Aldosivi, River Plate prevailed 2-1 at Estudiantes, and Godoy Cruz was held to a goalless home draw by Barracas Central. ■
