DONGGUAN, China, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Amateur Peng Yanxuan delivered a sensational performance with a personal-best nine-under-par 63, but Ren Yijie proved equally resilient on Friday, sinking a 12-foot birdie putt on the final hole to leave the two teenagers tied after two rounds of the GolfJoy Women's Open.

Competing on the Olazabal Course at Mission Hills Golf Club Dongguan, the 16-year-olds both stood at eight-under 136 through 36 holes in the RMB800,000 tournament, the first full-field event of the CLPG Tour season.

Chen Hsuan of Chinese Taipei carded a 68 to sit alone in third place, two shots behind the leaders. Canadian amateur Shauna Liu followed at three shots back after a 69, while Thailand's Natthakritta Vongtaveelap (69) was another stroke behind in fifth. Overnight leader Onkanok Soisuwan of Thailand slipped to five shots off the pace after posting a 73.

Chongqing native Peng, a two-time winner on the CLPGQ Tour development circuit, set the tone early in her morning round. She opened with a 20-foot birdie putt from a side slope on the 392-yard first hole, then surged with three consecutive birdies starting at the third. Additional gains at the seventh and ninth saw her make the turn at a remarkable six-under 30.

Her momentum continued on the back nine, where she birdied consecutive holes starting at the 11th before adding another at the 151-yard 17th to cap a memorable round. Her previous career-best score had been five under.

"Shooting a super-low score is certainly a necessary quality for a top-tier player. If you're on the LPGA Tour you have to have that kind of ability. I'm still an amateur, so for me this kind of score is more like the icing on the cake - it's an honor," said Peng who is trying to become the first player to come through Monday qualifying and win since fellow amateur Liu Yujie won the Jackfish Guangdong Women's Open in August.

"I was there on-site as well, so I certainly hope to follow in her footsteps. I actually think Monday qualifying is beneficial for us because you get an extra round of experience in the tournament atmosphere," said Peng, 363rd in the World Golf Amateur Ranking. "I would give my performance 120 points today. I capitalized on every birdie opportunity and made no mistakes. It was an extremely satisfying round."

Ren, who claimed a record four titles on the CLPG Tour as an amateur before turning professional last month, also made a strong start with four birdies on the front nine. Despite dropping her only shot of the day at the 398-yard 12th hole, she bounced back impressively with birdies at the par-five 15th and the final hole, keeping her firmly in contention for her maiden professional victory.
